Snow Day – Take TWO!

Snow Day.  That’s a phrase we don’t hear very often in this part of Texas, and we’ve heard it twice in less than a week.  Yes, my “to do” list is so long that I could wrap it around myself like a mummy.  You know what, though?  Today, who cares?  Clearly from the photo below, you can see how dire our situation is.  Alas, we choose to make the best of it.

Our children are ours for such a short time.  How soon will we long for the days when our most important action item was deciding which board game to play or how high to build our fort?  Yes, my friends.  Princesses build forts, too.

So today, my family is embracing Snow Day – Take Two!  I don’t know what you do on your snow days, but here’s what happens around here:

First things first…we must have warmth.  Before breakfast.  Before caffeine.  There must be fire!

Once we are sufficiently warm, we begin to forage for breakfast.  Since PC (Prince Charming) is homebound, too, we feast on his famous homemade pancakes!  Yummy goodness…we’ll need our strength if we’re to face the elements outside!

After breakfast, what, oh what is a princess to do?  Homework and cleaning, of course.

Wait.  What?  No, that’s not right.  We play!  We investigate those strange looking ice picks hanging from the roof.  We take them and create beautiful art!

After such arduous activities, we nap.  Sort of…

Even the dogs are tired.

After our beauty rest, we start all over again.  The day is full of laughter, snuggles and pj’s.  The girls are in the process of selecting our early afternoon matinee, and I.Am.In.Heaven.  Tomorrow, I may be stressed about that ever growing laundry list of to do’s that I never seem to complete.  Not today, though.  Not today.  Today, I rest in the truth that my God holds every moment, every struggle, every worry in His hand.   I believe He wants us to find delight in these opportunities where we are forced to set aside our worries and just be.  Just be.

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!  And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.”

~Luke 12:22-32 (NIV)
